[IN]PLACE System by Peter Walsh (Giveaway-CLOSED)

I may like things "tidy" but when it comes to "organizing" I sometimes struggle. Remember my post about my office? I don't have any "real" organization other than a few filing cabinets. There are usually papers, notes and junk all over the top of the desk. When it comes to organizing this space, I'm a mess.

On April 2nd, 2009, I jumped at the opportunity when I was invited to take part in an interactive webcast about home office organization with Office Max's Julie Kreuger and Peter Walsh. Peter Walsh is an organization expert, a well-known author, frequent guest on Oprah, and host of the TLC show Clean Sweep.

During the one hour webcast we were given tips, advice, and questions were answered about how to make this new filing system functional for a mom’s life and home office.

I was thrilled when my question was the first question addressed by Peter and Julie. (although I don't think Peter thought I seriously had a 10' desk LOL). I asked how to keep a desk of that size organized, especially when I don't have any drawers or cabinets, only shelves above my desk.

Peter's Response: "Think of your office desk like a vehicle, everything you need close at hand"

When asked what products should first be purchased when trying to organize an office, Peter's surprising response was "Nothing" The first step in getting organized has nothing to do with products. It is all about the vision that you have for your home office, what is to take place in the space, clear the clutter, THEN think about what products are needed. If you would like to hear these questions answered in more detail along with several others, be sure to watch Peter and Julie's webcast.

About a week prior, I was sent a wonderful starter kit and accessories from two new home office lines from Office Max to get acquainted with.

This amazing organization kit includes 3 file folders, a file tote, 5 clip tabs, 1 post-it cube, 3 document sleeves, 1 document envelope, document wallet, and 1 erasable marker. The best part is the durable and reuseable material that each piece is made from. With the erasable marker, these products can be used again and again. You can write on your tabs or the folder and then go back and erase it when you need to reorganize.

The [In]Place System are products that fit together and work together, giving a controlled start to meeting your organization needs. All of the products are clear, which plays off Peter's advice of keeping what you need VISBILE. His theory, if you're highly organized, you'll be highly efficient. The products fit together, and when put in the proper "dashboard"(everything should be within your reach, just like the main controls of your car's dashboard) of your home office, makes things ACCESSIBLE. Finally, everything is travel-ready, making the products PORTABLE. These three features - visibilty, accessibility, and portability - make the the [In]Place System uber- fabulous!

Below is a link to a pdf that contains some great tips from Peter Walsh to help keep your work life organized:
InPlace System by Peter Walsh & OfficeMax tips sheet

OfficeMax also sent along some other items from their DiVoga line. Some colorful file folders, a journal, a pen, paper clips and a rubber band ball. While I had to wrestle my family for the rubber band ball, I actually can't wait to use the file folders and cool paperclips in my new office! This was just the inspiration I needed to get my office painted.

So a big THANK YOU to Peter, Julie and Office Max!

It's a toss-up for first place: either my laundry room or the master closet is the most unorganized place in the house. So, eenie, meenie, miney, mo.

The next most unorganized place is definitely my office. Which serves as my office, my music studio, my scrapbooking room and the thoroughfare between the laundry room and the master closet.

Too bad the prize doesn't go to the most pathetic story, right?

I would say it's either my half of our 12' desk {you're not the only one with a big desk!! ;)}, I have no filing cabinet or shelves to put my things on so it just piles up and under my side, or the cabinets under the bathroom sink.

My most disorganized place is my laundry room. When we moved in, it was a TINY bedroom, maybe 8x9 and the previous owners had turned it into a 1st floor laundry. Over the past few years, it has become the catch-all room for everything. A Halloween wreath sits atop an Easter wreath, there's a Skin So Soft basket I won YEARS ago, still in cellophane, all my husband's clothes have migrated to this room, old shoes, and oh yes, all the laundry!!

Oh Cheryl - must you know the most unorganized place at my home???? Well, I will tell you - it's my garage. You know, being a shopkeeper - well, we "collect" things - thinking "I'll do something with that - SOMEDAY". Every time my husband raises the door - my heart starts beating fast - with embarassment of course - my garage needs a CLEAN SWEEP!!!

So now you know - the secret is out - Just know my house is in order - nothing like my garage - hehe!!! Cathy

Hmmmm, MOST unorganized place.... It would be much easier to describe the only organized place - my shower is pretty organized, hehehe.

Okay, my most unorganized place is called "Mommy's Secret Room". It used to be "my junk room" and then to attempt to keep my daughter out of the mess, (she's three and much too little - she might get lost in there!), it was renamed.

Do you have a junk drawer? Well picture that only BIGGER - it's a junk ROOM! All the things that don't go anywhere else, end up there. Gift wrapping and supplies, books, videos, plush toys, decorating items that I'm not using. Craft projects never finished, okay, okay I admit, craft projects never started.

Now picture stacks....there are high stacks, low stacks, wide stacks, uh oh, now I'm slipping into Dr. Suess...

My most disorganized place in the house... really has no place. Besides our piling garage clutter (which is kind of obvious for any tidy person, in my opinion - it has to go somewhere!)... my craft stuff is the most disorganized. I have nowhere to put it... so I'm constantly searching for specific items I can't find. I have some of my supplies in the garage on a shelf, some in our computer room/office, some under our bed, some in the cupboards of the kitchen... you get the point.

I would, love, love, love one central place to have everything. I'm sure I could fit it all in the computer room/office... if I could just figure out a proper shelving system to keep it out of my husband's way too.

Ugh... my closet is a HUGE mess. It's the only part in the house that is wholly mine and therefore, it's hard to keep it organized.

My most disorganized place is my "studio". The experts are right - the things I use most are not in arm's reach and so they end out on the limited table space with a path of stuff in their wake!

Thanks for this chance to win.

The most unorganized place in our home is the computer/craft room. There is no shelves, file cabinets, drawers or anywhere to store craft or office supplies. It all gets put into cardboard boxes and then is stacked up. Whenever I need something I have to rummage through half a dozen or more boxes to find what I want.

The worst is my husband's office. He avoids organization like the plague. Unfortunately, as his office houses the main computer, I need to use it to. I need something asethically pleasing AND easy for him to use.

Frankly, the most disorganized place in my apartment is everywhere! My current apartment is super-small and with crafting, writing, clothing, and the number of books I own, it's pretty crazy! Luckily I'm moving into a new (bigger) apartment shortly (there's even a separate office). Hopefully I'll be able to get things squared away there.

Hmm - tough choice between my desk in the computer room or the table in the foyer that always becomes the 'catch all' for everything from keys and mail to toys and coupons.

The most disorganized area in my house is my boys' room! No matter how many times we go thru and clean it, toss broken toys, and reorganize, it only takes a day or 2 before it's a mess again!

I could say my whole house, but let's start with my bedroom. I have one big closet in this rm and the whole guts of the closet came down, BOOM! This happened quite awhile ago (won't say how long, lol) and I'm slowly cleaning it out. There are clothes, shoes, bags and boxes all over the bedrm, along with dirty laundry, Boomer's litterbox, lol and many other things that shouldn't be in that room. As soon as I make a walkway (*blushing*) to the closet, I'm headed to the home store to get a Rubbermaid Configuration System and make an appt to have it installed! Then maybe I can find my clothes once again *sigh*
Do I win? =)

I have an area near my bed that I like to call my "inbox"... It's my catch all for everything - what I need to read but don't have time for, junk mail and credit card offers that need to be shredded, the shirt I need to get dry cleaned, you know stuff! Anyway, that's the my most unorganized spot!

Thanks for the opportunity!

What a great blog!

Definitely my most unorganized is my bedroom. We have a teeny-tiny closet, and I love clothes. The other would definitely be our office located in the garage. Because our home is so small, the office sits in a corner in the garage. It is a small spot hard to keep organized.

My most disorganized place in the built in desk in our kitchen. It just seems to accumulate everything we might want to keep, but don't have a clue what to do with it. For instance, it holds our family calendar, notes, pens, junk mail with sale ads too good to pass up, mail that we should send back but haven't, the kid's school flyers, homework that wants to be saved, etc. Help.....

The most disorganized place in my house is easily my bathroom. The oversize linen closet is currently filled with baskets (my last attempt to bring order to the chaos) filled with anything and everything you could name...brushes and combs, cold medicines, hotel shampoos, etc. The disorganization arises from my inability to enforce basket integrity, so everything is in every basket. If you are looking for something in particular (a bandaid, for example), you must start looking in the first basket and keep looking until you either find one (unlikely) or decide there are no bandaids (most likely).

I used to be what I considered to be "organized" until almost 3 years ago when I got very sick. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It has taken almost 2 years for me to even get back to working. Even though I dont work a whole lot it is enough to wear me out. I also have 3 children that I try to be there for. I have all my bills and prescriptions and all my kids papers from school along with pictures and just about everything else all thrown into a Giant box in my hallway. I need to get it all organized so I can find stuff especially all my medical stuff and my 1 sons (who also has a very rare autoimmune disorder) medical info so that it is easily located. I am so overwhelmed and don't even know where to begin. This would be amazing to have all of this to help organize my life.
